Sports News: Tim Tebow signed by New England Patriots

Here’s what’s trending now:

Tim Tebow has been signed by the New England Patriots

In a 2 year, no guaranteed money contract, reports ESPN Tebow will play for the New England Patriots after being cut loose from the NY JetsTom Brady is still the starting quarterback, and Tim Tebow is going to be the secondary quarterback.

Tim Tebow is a pretty interesting guy.  His parents were Baptist missionaries in Philippines, where he was born.   He also lived in Florida where he was homeschooled and fought to play in the local public high school football team.  The law allowing this is nicknamed the Tim Tebow law.  He was the first homeschooled athlete to be nominated for the Heisman Trophy and the first sophomore to win it.

While at the University of Florida he stirred up a lot of controversy writing Biblical quotes in eye black.  The NCAA made a new rule the following year dubbed the Tim Tebow Rule that players weren’t allowed to write things with the eye paint.  He is also known for kneeling and praying, and there is an entire website dedicated to showing pictures of people “Tebowing.”  (Some are mocking, some are earnest.)

He also made pro-life ads that aired during the 2010 Superbowl.  It makes sense why he feels so strongly about this, because he himself was almost aborted.  While in the Philippines His mother contacted amoebic dysentery and fell into a coma.  As she recovered she discovered she was pregnant and the doctors expected the medications she was taking to cause a stillbirth and recommended an abortion.  She decided to have the baby anyway due to her faith and Tim ended up being born healthy.

When you watch a sport are you more interested in the way the athlete plays the game or in the player’s back story?

  1. Backstory all the way! I wasn’t a fan of the team, but they earned my respect for giving him a chance. He may not be the best player, but he is one of the best role models of the NFL and with the news of what some players are doing this week alone, they REALLY need role models!

      • I’m just sick of players breaking the laws and usually violently and people still thinking they’re cool. Something has to change. Was thrilled when Johnson ended up having to go to jail this week. He’s so arrogant and I’m sure was convinced he’d get off.
